Mapping the Market: ByWard Sketch Walk

Step into the ByWard Market and add your voice to a collective portrait of this unique part of Ottawa. We’ll give you a specially designed map of the Market to use as your canvas. As you walk, think about what this place means to you. It could be a memory of a favourite shop, the smell of fresh produce, the sound of music in the street, or a vision of what you’d love to see here in the future.

What to Do

Mark, draw, write, or doodle directly on your map. Use colour, sketches, short notes, or even quick symbols to capture the emotions, moments, and ideas that come to mind. There’s no wrong way to do it, it’s about what you see and feel.

Taking Part

You can join us in person for a walk through the Market or take part from home with a digital version of the map. Either way, your creation will become part of a larger collection that brings together many different voices and perspectives.

Sharing the Results

Completed maps will be displayed in a pop-up exhibition and online gallery during Ottawa Architecture Week, showing the Market as a rich tapestry of stories, memories, and dreams.
